Nuts of the shea tree, picked in the wild on the savannah in west African countries like Ghana and Burkina Faso, are processed into shea butter and used in food, cosmetics and other industrial applications. The trade conference in NYC was initiated by the Global Shea Alliance to promote shea in the US.
